Through the Eyes of Rodney Mathers, owner of CCRS Fleckvieh:
Rod enjoys ranch work most when he can see progress- during the summer, as calves develop, and in the winter, when new calves hit the ground. He is especially satisfied during calving season, particularly when he can sit at the feed bunk and watch calves come up to investigate, sniff, and occasionally give him a curious bump.
Rod graduated from Mt. Vernon School District before attending Mitchell Vo-Tech in the early 2000s, where he earned an associate degree in agricultural business and management.
While there, he studied welding, electricity, building construction, animal husbandry, and other agricultural skills. “I even learned how to build a pole barn,” he says. Rod also participated in livestock judging and has been a lifelong supporter, and member, of FFA and 4-H.
As a devoted father to sons Cooper and Conner- the C and C of CCRS- Rod is passing his knowledge on to the next generation. Along with building a quality breeding program, he sees himself as a dedicated link to the future of agriculture. “I am doing all of this for my sons. They are the future of CCRS.”
